Senior Addictions Therapist

Job Description:

Senior Addictions Therapist

Full time, Roehampton
Salary up to £53,560

Senior addictions therapy roles need a bit more care in how they are described.

Because this is not simply a therapy role where addiction experience would be useful.

It's a specialist addictions role, in a private mental health and addiction treatment setting, working with adults who may be dealing with substance use disorders, behavioural addictions and co-occurring mental health needs.

Bella Mente are working on behalf of a specialist business who are recruiting for a Senior Addictions Therapist to join the team.

This could suit someone who wants to stay close to meaningful clinical work, but also wants more responsibility, more influence and a stronger voice within the treatment programme.

You'll be working with people affected by alcohol, cocaine, heroin, gambling and other addiction related difficulties. The work may also involve trauma, shame, relapse, family impact, resistance, ambivalence and the wider emotional complexity that often sits around addiction.

So the addiction experience genuinely needs to be there.

This isn't a role for someone looking to move into addictions for the first time.

It needs a qualified counsellor or psychotherapist who already understands the work, ideally across both individual and group settings.

You'll be involved in assessment, treatment planning, individual therapy, group therapy, family work where appropriate, MDT collaboration and clinical documentation.

There is also a senior element to the post, so you'll be supporting, mentoring and guiding therapists or caseworkers, helping maintain clinical standards and contributing to the wider treatment programme.

You'll need a recognised counselling or psychotherapy qualification, along with accreditation from a relevant professional body such as BACP, UKCP or HCPC.

Registration alone is unlikely to be enough for this role.

Experience using approaches such as CBT, motivational interviewing, trauma informed practice, psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, IFS or body based modalities would be useful, but the key requirement is proper addiction treatment experience.

Previous supervision or leadership experience would be helpful, but clinical credibility in addictions is the main thing.

The role is full time, 37.5 hours per week, and based on site in Roehampton.

The salary is up to £53,500 along with the other benefits you'd expect from a specialist organisation in healthcare.

It won't suit everyone.

But if you're an addictions therapist, counsellor or psychotherapist in or around South West London, and you're open to a senior role with real clinical depth, apply and we can talk further.
